Monday, 19

  • Woke up. Lingered in bed for a few minutes. Got dressed, 190, got kids ready, ate breakfast, dropped kids off, went to the gym(!).

  • Ran some errands (Makro, tire repair shop) and then went to pick up kids. During all of this, had more of the usual discussions with J. and as usual failed to see eye-to-eye a lot of the time. Sigh. But the discussion ended with us still speaking, I think, so that’s  an improvement, I guess.

  • Had lunch, organized office a bit, then started working with Danny on his reading/writing.

  • Finally got around to hanging a bunch a framed stuff we brought with us and that has been in cupboards for the past two years. It felt good!

  • After hours of tidying and hanging stuff on walls, I was exceedingly grumpy. I put kids to bed, showered, picked up J. at bus stop, read awhile, and then went to sleep.

Sunday, 18

  • J. brought me breakfast in bed! Read the papers till it was time to get dressed.

  • Went to lunch with Mom, Dad and Carola at Pizza One. Then went for dessert at Tia Edith and Tio Franciso’s new apartment. Monica is here helping them with their move.

  • Got home, helped Ben with homework, put kids to bed, and watched American Sniper. Denied for like third straight time, so read a bit, and then went to sleep.

Saturday, 17

  • Woke up, showered, had breakfast in room, and then back to bed for some reading. I wanted to cuddle a bit but J. wasn’t feeling it, so we got dressed, checked out and went for coffee. Popped into GGMCC bookstore and bought a couple books before heading home.

  • Got home, hung out with kids, ate lunch, and then lounged for the rest of the afternoon.

  • Made empanadas for dinner, put kids to bed, watched Foxcatcher.

  •  Before falling asleep, I asked J. why he only kissed me in bed. He said it was because no one would understand. When I asked what they wouldn’t understand, he said “Nothing.” I rolled over and went to sleep; he watched The Imitation Game.

Friday, 16

  • Woke up. Slowly getting back into school-time rhythm. Lily came to cuddle. J. not feeling well, so he stayed home.

  • Went to drop off Danny’s admission form to San Carlos. Traffic was detoured because a cyclist was killed on the 7a 🙁 Ran a few errands and then picked up kids.

  • Ate lunch, made reservation, went to Mom’s, picked up Ben, headed out.

  • Arrived at the very posh and lovely Orchids Hotel, in La Candelaria. Had dinner at The Opera Hotel; wine at Tartine, where we chatted with Pascal; mojitos, rum, and live music by poet and pianist Fernando Linero at La Casa de las Citas; cider at The Pub; then back to the hotel for a bath^ and bed^.

Thursday, 15

  • As we’re waking up this morning he pushes me aside a bit and says he thinks it’s my weight leaning on him when we’re in bed that is making his back hurt. He always says the nicest things. I’ll just add back pain to the long list of things that are my fault and for which I am currently doing penance.
  • Ran pseudo-errands, since we’re still not going to the gym, and I spent too much money on perfume (Kiehl’s) and art books (The Art Book). If you can’t attain true happiness, then do your best to buy a semblance of it. Ha.
  • Came home, had lunch and tackled my office. What a mess!! Didn’t finish but made some good headway.
  • Afternoon snacks and then worked with Danny on his reading and writing. The San Carlos admissions test is coming up so soon!! Ack!!!
  • Dinner, kids to bed, and then watched Birdman. Meh. Really strong acting but the story didn’t grab me.

And did you get what you wanted from this life, even so?

I did.

And what did you want?

To call myself beloved, to feel myself beloved on the earth.

– Raymond Carver, A New Path To the Waterfall

Wednesday, 14

  • Woke up exhausted, after a very tense night.

  • Ran 1,000,001 errands, including taking back a library book almost a month last its due date. Things with J. were normal(ish).

  • Had a long nap after lunch, swung by Mom’s house quickly after picking up Ben, then came home, organized books, and worked with Danny on his reading/writing.

  • Dinner, kids to bed, and then watched the exceptionally average John Wick. Oh, Keanu.

Tuesday, 13

  • First day back at school. Yay! Have to wake up early. Boo! Kids got off relatively pain-free

  • J. isn’t going to the gym because of the money thing so we ran errands all morning, including buying a bunch of furniture at Tugo and picking up San Carlos app form for Danny. Things felt good, but things are not always what they seem.

  • Marleny is back! Got home to eat the lovely lunch she had prepared for us and then spent the afternoon putting together flat-pack furniture.

  • Dinner, kids to bed, watched some TV, to bed^, and then a bit of arguing for good measure. Still about the money thing. Sigh. Slept together, alone, together. This is madness

Monday, 12

  • Last day of sleeping in. Oh, the humanity! Woke up and went to J.’s bed. After a while he cuddled and out of the blue told me he was sorry for all the times he hurt me and said he forgave me everything (although he later amended this to everything except the money thing).

  • Made lunch and then spent rest of day cleaning and organizing. Left me in a super mood (not).

  • Got kids ready for school/bed, had some wine, and watched the amazing Whiplash. Loved it! Slept together.

  • Quote of the day, Lily: “Jose, este juego no es para gente de mal genio.”

Sunday, 11

  • Woke up and went to J.’s bed. After a while we went to my bed, where we spent the day reading.

  • Watched Short Circuit for movie night with kids, and Mom came over.

  • Went back to bed for more reading and Golden Globes coverage, then lights out. I made snarky comment about needing to make an appointment in his social calendar in order to chat with him and so I slept alone again.

Saturday, 10

  • Woke up at a good hour, went down for breakfast and then spent the morning with J. organizing the library. It looks great.

  • Drove towards Guatavita for lunch but got stuck in traffic jam (during which we argued), so stopped at dam and had lunch there.

  • On way back got stuck in even bigger traffic jam. Of course we argued some more, but ended things on a less bad note.

  • Went to look at bookshelves at Tugo, bought wine and bread at Carulla, and ate pizza at Papa John’s.

  • Watched Bottle Rocket together. Slept alone.
